Kindertaalcafé: A Multilingual Storytime Morning for Families
Amsterdam is one of the most linguistically rich and culturally diverse cities in Europe. Taalhuis Amsterdam welcomes learners of all ages and backgrounds every day - including children. To celebrate this diversity, every two months the school transforms into a language playground for families, young readers and curious little linguists.
During this edition of the Kindertaalcafé (Child language café), our volunteer parents and teachers will read children’s books in Dutch, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian and Turkish, all centred around the theme of knuffels - both the cuddly toy and the warm hug (not just one, lots of them ;)). Children are invited to bring their favourite cuddly toy from home to join the fun.
While children enjoy a creative workshop in the café, parents can relax with coffee, tea and croissants for a gentle start to the day.
A Parent Session with me
At 11:00, I’ll run a 20-minute mini session for parents on raising multilingual kids - what really matters, what doesn’t and how to feel more confident on this journey.
I’ll also stay on during lunch to chat, mingle and answer any extra questions 😊
From 12:00 to 13:00, everyone is welcome to join the cozy lunch buffet.
If your home language isn’t on the reading list, you are warmly invited to bring a book and read aloud in your own language - the Kindertaalcafé celebrates all languages and all families.
This is not just a space for reading and play; it is a place to meet and connect with other multilingual and multicultural families in Amsterdam.
This is a free event, but registration is encouraged. You can do this HERE
